On November 15th David Imig (Maryland) made a presentation about the Professional Practice Doctorate. For those of you unable to attend, I've created a special download package. This "package" includes an MP3 version of David's presentation and discussion, a PDF version of the PowerPoint slides he used, and the Shulman et al. (2006) Educational Researcher article that David (and many others) reference.
David provided a good general overview of the Professional Practice Doctorate issues and national changes. The information provided at his talk is very useful in preparing for Karen Gallagher's December 9th presentation. Karen is the Dean of the School of Education at the University of Southern California. She very successfully lead that school through a transition from Ph.D. only to Ph.D. and P.P.D. Her very specific experiences and knowledge will be very useful for us in deciding whether to develop a second alternative path for our doctoral students in addition to the regular dissertation study as a capstone.
