Faculty Research Brown Bags this semester: September 9th with Susan Katz and October 21st with Shabnam Koirala-Azad. Both events start at noon.
Susan Katz
September 9th in ED 119 from 12 to 1. Susan will discuss preliminary findings from her Spring 2010 Fulbright research project, "Bilingual Intercultural Education Among the Shuar of Ecuador: Dynamics of State Schooling, Language, Power, and Indigenous Cultural Identity." She will share data (and scenes) from 4 months of participant-observation and interviews with students and teachers at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Educación Intercultural Bilingue de los Shuar y Achuar, located in the southeast Amazon region. Come join her in reliving a wondrous experience in the rainforest!
Shabnam Koirala-Azad
October 21st in ED TBA from 12 to 1. Shabnam's session will focus on her ethnographic study of a popular education initiative with Bay Area Nepali youth and their development of a transnational identity. She will engage us in discussion about new directions for this research.
