Since it will take the group doing the survey awhile to do a decent analysis of the data, it seemed best to have them present their findings, and for all of us to discuss more deeply our connection with schools, at the January 28th meeting.
On a completely different front Judy Pace, Patricia Busk, and Xornam Apedoe have been organizing a Faculty Research Brown Bag series of events. They plan on having two per semester. Unfortunately it was hard for them to find a good time to hold two meetings this semester. Yet their intended first discussion for this event very nicely complemented our October discussion. So, it seemed logical to have these three colleagues help facilitate our November 19th faculty association meeting discussion from 12 to 1:30.
Judy's official invitation is below.
Patricia B., Xornam, and I are excited to facilitate our first Faculty Research Brown Bag at the Faculty Association meeting on 11/19. This is a direct follow-up on last month's meeting. The main purpose is to discuss possibilities for doing research that accompanies work that we are doing in local schools and communities. Noah will start us off with a brief overview of the research he and Christine have been doing as part of their project with the Samoan community in San Francisco. The majority of the meeting will be devoted to sharing ideas for research questions and methods, as well as discussing related issues such as ethics, logistics, and support. The content will be determined by our needs and interests as a group.
It would be very helpful if you emailed me (pace@usfca.edu) the following: 1) whether you are able to attend, 2) whether you have a particular project you'd like to discuss, 3) whether there are specific topics you'd like to address. That way we can decide whether it makes sense to break up into small groups and other ways to organize the conversation.
Thanks for your enthusiasm and support!
Thanks Mathew,
Judy
